Cape Cat

For feline lovers this might be a disappointment, not a cat in sight, but there is a dramatic sky and great light on the sea. Photo taken on a Mijas Photography Group weekend shoot at Cabo de Gata (Cape Cat), Almeria, Southern Spain.

Apologise for giving feedback, though you never asked for it, but I would personally suggest not going so heavy on the highlight recovery. You can see the halo-effect it creates around the edges of the land against the sky. I usually go heavy at first, then take it a few steps back and then make sure there is a proper white spot by using the white slider in my raw converter. Sweet location anyways, wish I had access to some proper dramatic seascapes 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to make a comment. Much appreciated. I wasn’t too happy about the halo either. Thought it might be due to too much pre-sharpening but reducing it didn’t have any effect. I didn’t think about the impact of highlight recovery. Using Capture One as my RAW converter and with a little more experimentation it seems the problem relates more to the values for ‘clarity’ and ‘structure’ which are grouped together. Reading around the subject, in Capture One, clarity alters for example the contrast between a silhouetted cliff against its background, whereas structure adjusts the contrast within the silhouetted cliff. In the case of this photo and Capture One reducing clarity and structure values helps to reduce the halo around the cliff faces. I’ll have to do a local adjustment layer in Capture One to re-paint some clarity and structure back into the breaking waves to re-create the impact in that part of the image. Thanks again for your advice. Always appreciated. 👍

Taken original image out of post and added a new version without halos.
